In my last blog, I had spoken about one of the very basic yet important skin problems we have to face on a daily basis – Dark Circles. Let us move on to another skin problem today.

Since we’re talking about skin problems, it is a given that we all know our skin type right? But you would be surprised to know how many times a person may actually not know the correct skin type and uses products that do not suit them and end up with skin issues. The best person to trust with your skin type is a skin doctor, however for those of us how don’t or have not visited one ever, just ask the salon you visit. More often or not, they’re correct, but beware of the salons that just complicate your skin type/condition to sell a new type of facial/skin treatment.

Let me talk about the basics, the 5 types of skin every Indian has.

  1. Dry

  2. Oily

  3. Combination

  4. Sensitive

  5. Normal – type of skin which does not react badly to products/ doesn’t require specific products to remain healthy.

In this blog, I’m going to talk about how to get glowing skin for people dealing with ‘dry skin’.

Our skin produces its own oil, and when that doesn’t happen it results in dry skin – rough skin, flaky skin. Using a good moisturizing face lotion and hydrating face was can help maintain the balance.

But since I love home remedies as much, below are a list of DIY skincare routine which will help you get glowing skin.

1. Turmeric Face Pack:

Ingredients and procedure:

  1. ½ to 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

  2. 4 tablespoons gram flour (also called chickpea flour)

  3. Milk or water

Mix the turmeric powder with the gram flour. Add enough milk or water to this to form a paste.

Apply this paste on your face and neck.

Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes.

Rinse with plain water.

2. Virgin Coconut oil massage:

Ingredients and procedure:

For this you only need the coconut oil, warm up the oil slightly and apply directly to the face and neck.

Massage gently for a few minutes in circular motions and leave it overnight.

You can also use it as a scrub 1-2 times a week by adding sugar to it and exfoliating your skin.

3. Aloe Vera gel Pack

Aloe Vera gel has nourishing and healing properties that rejuvenate the skin to give it a natural glow.

Ingredients and procedure:

  1. 1 tablespoon Aloe Vera gel

  2. 1 pinch of turmeric

  3. 1 teaspoon honey

  4. 1 teaspoon milk

Mix all the ingredients together to form a paste, and apply the mixture to face and neck evenly. Leave it on for 20 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry.

You can apply this face pack 1-2 times a week.

4. Baking Soda face Pack

Baking soda exfoliates dead skin cells and neutralizes the skin’s pH level. It also has antibacterial properties that can help prevent infections.

Ingredients and procedure:

  1. 1 teaspoon baking soda

  2. 1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil

  3. ½ teaspoon honey

Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and apply the mixture on damp face and neck, using circular motions. Leave it on for 10 minutes.

Rinse with cool water, and then pat dry.

Moisturize your face after this.

5. Lemon Scrub

Lemon contains vitamin C that bleaches and removes tan, making your skin appear brighter and radiant. The sugar granules provide an exfoliating effect to help to get rid of dead cells.

Ingredients and procedure:

  1. 2 teaspoon lemon juice

  2. 2 teaspoon sugar

Mix lemon juice and sugar to make an exfoliating scrub.

Scrub your face in a circular motion and leave it on for 10 minutes.

Rinse with warm water and see your skin glow.

You can scrub your face 1-2 times a week with this mixture.

Note: Lemon juice may make your skin photosensitive. Please apply sunscreen before stepping out.

6. Papaya face Mask

Ripe papaya contains papain, an enzyme that acts as a mild exfoliator. This gently removes the top layer of dead cells on the face and makes your skin radiant and younger-looking. Fuller’s earth cleanses the pores of oils and grime, tones the skin, and improves the complexion. Honey is a natural moisturizer and hydrates the skin. It also reduces the blemishes on the skin. This pack acts as a skin firming and anti-aging face pack along with glowing skin.

Ingredients and procedure:

  1. Few pieces of ripe Papaya

  2. 1 teaspoon Fuller’s Earth (Multani Mitti)

  3. 1 teaspoon honey

Take a ripe papaya and cut it into small pieces.

Add the Fuller’s earth and honey to it. Mix all of them to get a paste like consistency.

Apply it all over your face and neck. Keep it on for 20 minutes and then rinse with cool water.

You should ideally do this once a week.

7. Cucumber face Mask

Cucumber is cooling for the skin. It replenishes and rejuvenates dull skin with its antioxidants. It also improves complexion and reduces swelling.

You can repeat this every 3 days if you like the result.

8. Honey face Massage

Honey has soothing and humectant effects, which means it easily retains moisture. It moisturizes your skin, delays wrinkle formation, and keeps it looking youthful.

You only need Honey in this remedy.

Apply honey evenly on clean and damp skin. Massage it for a few minutes and leave it on for another five minutes. Wash the honey off with lukewarm water.

This simple routine can be done every alternate day.
